Scope
The GFN project within NGMN (see NGMN – We make better connections) had the Energy Efficiency sub-project producing the following relevant white papers:
Summary
The three energy-saving white papers, Network Energy Efficiency (3rd October 2021), Network Energy Efficiency Phase 2 (10th October 2023), and Network Energy Efficiency Phase 3A (7th November 2023), are updates from the industry and academia about possible ways and best practices for saving energy in mobile networks. The category of solutions includes hardware enhancements and site architecture enhancements, including cooling. However, the solutions related to software functions (e.g. switching off resources in RAN) and data-driven and AI-based optimisation of the network for energy saving are relevant for WP3 tasks.
Relevance for EXIGENCE
The energy saving features related to software functions, data driven optimisation and AI based energy consumption optimisation are relevant for resource interconnectivity, orchestration and energy optimisation.
