ITAV is actively involved in fundamental and applied research both at national and international levels. ITAV also plays its role towards public society with public awareness initiatives, knowledge transfer to industry, and by providing consulting services on a non-competing basis. ITAV members (about 200 PhD holding integrated researchers) are organized into research clusters and groups, which cover most of the R&D areas in Telecommunications and supporting sciences and technologies. ITAV hosts annually about 250 PhD students and about 200 MSc students. Advanced laboratory facilities are available in most Thematic Lines of ITAV to support applied research, which is carried out in the framework of national and international projects in cooperation with similar research institutions worldwide. Each year ITAV is involved in more than 170 projects, of which about 30-40 have European funding, obtained in a competitive basis.
Role
ITAV will support the Scientific Coordination of the project, along its tools and system architecture elaboration. ITAV will also leverage its unparalleled experimental trials capability and experience, to support key validation actions within the project. The ITAV team involved in EXIGENCE has a long track record of research and innovation. With telecommunications as its driver, the ITAV team will develop new insights towards increasing the flexibility and energy efficiency of the future telecommunications infrastructures, by proposing and validating designs and concepts that may present advantages to future iterations, and to be transferred as innovations. The team has made extensive novel contributions regarding resilient software-based telecommunication infrastructures, with a focus in virtualized systems and the use of NFV and slicing, both for intra-domain and inter-domain scenarios. It also has contributions, prototypes, and demonstrators to validate highly dynamic approaches for the application of mobile-based services handover selection mechanisms in telecommunications, which ITAV plans to further evolve in the scope of the EXIGENCE project. From a network control and operation perspective, ITAV is also interested in pursuing human centric technological designs for bootstrap, with the prospect of providing systems that are highly dynamic, while having low energy and overhead footprint, and where users have high control over their data and can enforce optimal economic and preferences capabilities.

ATOS is a next-gen technology leader in data-driven, trusted and sustainable digital transformation with a strong portfolio of patented technologies. With worldwide leading positions in advanced computing, security, AI, cloud and digital platforms, it provides deep expertise for all industries in more than 47 countries. Bringing together 53,000 world-class talents, ATOS expands the possibilities of data and technology across the digital continuum, now and for generations to come.
BDS R&D Spain is ATOS’ research and development division working towards innovation in BDS products through the results of the projects in which it participates. Committed to high quality in delivery, sustainability and cost control, our team (140 professionals in seven locations across Spain) is currently involved in 87 co-funded R&D projects.
Role
ATOS BDS R&D Spain is responsible for improving energy related metrics observability of cloud-native network functions (NFs), specifically within K8 environments targeting greener deployments. This involves mapping the energy consumption of hardware components to their corresponding containers/pods, incorporating energy production from local renewable sources, and extending this observability to span the entire service chain across multiple domains. This enables application workload management based on energy-efficient algorithms, facilitating K8 workload migrations to take advantage of available renewable resources, thereby reducing the overall carbon footprint while maintaining desired performance. Furthermore, ATOS will explore methods for predicting resource consumption and production to proactively adapt power states for idle management or select model types based on available resources.
