Reflections on the Recent 6G Smart Networks and Services Meeting

On October 8-9, a significant meeting took place at the Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC) in Castelldefels, Barcelona, bringing together project coordinators and industry leaders. This event focused on the Steering Board (SB) and Technology Board (TB) of the 6G Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS-JU), where discussions were primarily focused on the future of 6G networks.

The two-day meeting was crucial for steering the joint undertaking towards its Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda. The SB and TB members worked to ensure alignment and complementarity among the numerous projects funded under the SNS JU umbrella, which currently includes an impressive portfolio of 62 research and innovation (R&I) projects dedicated to advancing 6G technology.

CTTC’s role in this initiative is significant, as it serves as a Governing Board member of the SNS JU and the 6G Industry Association (6G-IA). This public-private partnership aims to establish and maintain industrial leadership in Europe regarding 5G and 6G networks and services. The SNS JU is committed to fostering technological sovereignty in Europe and facilitating critical research and innovation efforts that will lead to substantial advancements and standardization in the coming years.

During the meeting, Carolina Pascaru, the project coordinator, along with Artur Hecker, discussed technical updates, project progress, and upcoming deliverables. The EXIGENCE project is proud to be an active member of the SNS community and continuously seeks new opportunities for technical collaboration and joint dissemination of findings with fellow SNS projects.

This meeting not only reinforced the commitment to advancing 6G technology but also underscored the importance of collaboration and innovation in achieving collective goals. As the participants move forward, they remain excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and the potential impact of their work on the future of telecommunications in Europe and beyond.
