Reliving the Energy and Innovation of EuCNC & 6G Summit 2025 with EXIGENCE!

At the beginning of the month, the EXIGENCE team had a phenomenal time at the EuCNC & 6G Summit 2025 in Poznan, Poland! It was an incredible opportunity to immerse ourselves in the vibrant research community dedicated to pushing the boundaries of 5G and 6G technologies. The energy, insights, and connections made truly solidified our commitment to shaping the future of telecommunications. We returned invigorated and inspired, eager to build upon the momentum generated at this landmark event.

A Hub of Innovation at Our Booth

Our collaborative Booth No. 16, “Sustainability for 6G: from Infrastructure to Services,” was a bustling hub of innovation, shared with fellow SNS JU initiatives: SNS BeGREEN, 6Green, 6G-Twin, and 6G-SENSES. This collaborative spirit perfectly showcased Europe’s concerted effort towards sustainable 6G.

At the booth, EXIGENCE partners proudly presented our latest advancements. A highlight was our live energy demo of 6G services, offering a tangible glimpse into the future of energy-efficient connectivity. We also provided an in-depth look at our advanced portable 5G SA Non-Public Network (NPN) testbed, a crucial tool for real-world testing and development. Furthermore, we showcased practical solutions for energy consumption monitoring across diverse cloud environments, empowering users and providers alike with critical data for sustainable operations. We were particularly honoured to welcome officials from the European Commission’s Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) to our booth. Our discussions on future collaborations were invaluable, reinforcing SNS JU’s pivotal role in driving Europe’s leadership in 5G and 6G.

Driving Sustainability and Best Practices in Workshops

EXIGENCE actively contributed to key workshops, demonstrating our commitment to both sustainable development and rigorous research methodologies:

Our team played a significant role in Workshop 18: “Technology Enablers for Sustainable 6G Design.” This crucial workshop, organised by Mir Ghoraishi (Gigasys Solutions, SNS BeGREEN Project Manager), brought together experts from 17 SNS projects, the SNS Sustainability Task Force, and the 6G-IA Vision Working Group. The discussions delved deep into how 6G can be designed to be environmentally friendly and, more broadly, how it can enable sustainability across various industries. EXIGENCE representatives, Artur Hecker (Huawei) and Rui Luis Aguiar (Institute of Telecommunication), contributed significantly, sharing insights from EXIGENCE’s research and the progress made by their respective organisations in tackling 6G sustainability.

We also participated in Workshop 16: “6G Experimental Methodologies, Pitfalls and Best Practices,” organised by Michael Dieudonne. This workshop was vital for refining research approaches, bringing together various SNS JU projects to share crucial insights into effective experimentation. The session emphasised that the quality of 6G research hinges on robust experimental execution, aiming to refine methodologies and avoid common pitfalls. Our partner, Janez Sterle (Internet Institute Ltd), contributed to Session 2, focusing on “Methodologies for End-to-End Energy Consumption Measurement in 6G,” a critical area for accurate sustainability assessment.

Pioneering Energy-Aware ICT Systems

A major highlight was the presentation of EXIGENCE’s latest paper, “Towards Energy Aware Operations of ICT Systems,” delivered by Ljupco Jorguseski (TNO). This insightful session was a must-attend for anyone interested in the critical topic of energy efficiency in ICT systems.

The paper introduces a groundbreaking ‘ecodata’ architecture, empowering users with real-time data on their digital footprint, encompassing energy use and CO2e emissions. This revolutionary approach aims to transform how we measure, optimise, and incentivise sustainable ICT services. The authors, our incredible team from EXIGENCE – Ljupco Jorguseski (TNO); Rudolf Susnik, Luka Koršič, and Janez Sterle (Internet Institute Ltd); Dr. Sripriya Adhatarao, Artur Hecker, and Zoran Despotovic (Huawei); Adamantia Stamou, Vasilios Siris, and George Stamoulis (STEcon Group AUEB); Panagiotis Kontopoulos and Theodora Panagea (SCANlab) – have truly paved the way for a more ecologically-aware use of ICT systems.

A Catalyst for the Future

Our participation in EuCNC & 6G Summit 2025 was more than just an event; it was a powerful catalyst for the future of 6G. The connections forged, the knowledge shared, and the progress showcased underscore the collaborative spirit and urgent need for sustainable innovation in the telecommunications sector. EXIGENCE is proud to be at the forefront of this evolution, and we are more committed than ever to driving forward the research and development that will make 6G not only a technological marvel but also a cornerstone of a truly sustainable digital world. We look forward to building upon the momentum from this summit and continuing our vital contributions to the 6G ecosystem.

See you all next year in Malaga, Spain for EuCNC & 6G Summit 2026. To more collaboration and discoveries!!
